Biography

Education

Ante Barišić, MD, PhD, graduated from the “Aleksa Šantić” Mathematical, Computer Science, and Physics High School in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2000.

He passed the specialist examination in ophthalmology in 2008, after completing his specialization at the “Sv. Duh” Clinical Hospital under the mentorship of Prof. Iva Dekaris, MD, PhD.

Doctor Barišić completed his professional postgraduate study in ophthalmology at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2007.

He defended his doctoral thesis, Analysis of multifocal lens application in presbyopes with clear lenses and patients after cataract surgery, at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 2008.

In 2015, doctor Ante Barišić was appointed Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Rijeka School of Medicine.

From 2004 to 2011, he was an associate/researcher on the scientific project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia, “Immunology of the Eye” (0129010).

Ante Barišić, MD, PhD, is the Head of the Cataract Surgery Department, which is also his main area of interest-

In addition to cataract surgeries, doctor Barišić has extensive experience in refractive lens surgery, i.e., intraocular lens implantation surgeries aimed at correcting diopters and eliminating the need for glasses. He also has experience in laser vision correction surgeries, amniotic membrane transplantations, and other anterior segment eye surgeries.

Professional Development

Under the mentorship of Prof. Nikica Gabrić, MD, PhD and Prof. Iva Dekaris, MD, PhD, he also received training at cataract courses in Prague (2008), Ljubljana (2007), and Budapest (2007).

He also spent one month on a scholarship from the European Society of Ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic in Munich (2007).

Doctor Barišić completed the “Visian ICL Surgical Certification Training” in Milan in 2012.

Lectures

Since 2009, doctor Barišić has been a regular lecturer at congresses of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (Barcelona 2009, Budapest 2010, Paris 2010, Istanbul 2011, Vienna 2011, Milan 2012, Warsaw 2013, Amsterdam 2013, Ljubljana 2014, London 2014, Istanbul 2015).

Additionally, he is an invited lecturer, moderator, and chairman at numerous international congresses and symposia related to cataract surgery and refractive lens surgery (Vienna 2011, Freiburg 2011, Istanbul 2011, Portorož 2012, Warsaw 2013, Dubrovnik and Zagreb 2010-2013, Ljubljana 2012 and 2013, Ohrid 2013, Belgrade 2013, Balaton 2014, Budva 2015, Katowice/Wisla 2016).

At the XXX Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Milan, he led the course “Verisyse/Veriflex Phakic IOLs Surgical Course.” From 2010 to 2013, he was co-director of the Cataract Surgery Course at the congresses of the Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Dubrovnik and Zagreb.

Publications and Research

Ante Barišić, MD, PhD, has published a total of 11 publications in journals referenced in international databases (8 papers in Current Contents, 3 papers in other databases).

His published works have 25 citations in the ISI Web of Knowledge database and 34 citations in Scopus.

His scientific work focuses on research in the field of anterior segment eye surgery, with an emphasis on cataract surgery and refractive lens surgery.

Doctor Ante Barišić participated as a principal investigator/researcher in the “Extended Range of Vision IOL” European multicenter study conducted at Svjetlost Eye Clinic in 2014 and the “Extended depth of focus trifocal IOL” study conducted in 2015, also at Svjetlost Eye Clinic.
